The endocannabinoid system is finally being recognized at high impact scientific events.

Montevideo, Uruguay – November 03, 2017 – “Brain Pathologies and Natural Products” by the 4th ISN Latin American School of Advanced Neurochemistry hosted the first symposium on medical Cannabis, which was held in Montevideo, Uruguay on October 28th, 2017 organized and directed by Dr. Cecilia Scorza from the IIBCE and Dr. Raquel Peyraube, President of SUEN (Uruguayan Endocannabinology Society).

“We are proud of the results that were achieved. We are motivated to move forward with our newly founded scientific association that will primarily focus on spreading the latest findings regarding the endocannabinoid system to doctors and healthcare professionals in Uruguay,” said Dr. Raquel Peyraube, President of SUEN.

Dr. Xavier Nadal, Director of the Extraction Department of Phytoplant Research S.L., focused his presentation on Opioid and Cannabinoid Interactions. Dr. Nadal presented an update on the clinical benefits and risks of using medical cannabis to fight the opioid epidemic. The Uruguayan Endocannabinology Society was founded on May 15, 2017, in the city of Montevideo. Its main objectives are to disseminate knowledge and advances in endocannabinology in academic areas and in the general population, promote education and research in endocannabinology, and access to treatments based on cannabis and cannabinoids that benefit health, always from the deep respect of Human Rights and the principles of Medical Ethics and Public Health.
